After an 18-month investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, the South San Francisco and Daly City police departments, as well as a two-year prosecution that ended in a three-month, four-defendant trial spanning the summer of 2014, 18 members and associates of the 500 Block/C Street Gang were convicted on various gang-related charges. These charges included racketeering conspiracy, racketeering murder and attempted murder, Hobbs Act robbery, obstruction of justice, and attempted murder of federal agents. The 500 Block/C Street Gang terrorized the streets of South San Francisco, and its members were responsible for a shooting that left three young people seriously injured, and — in one of the most violent episodes in the city’s history — three young men were wounded in a shooting and three others killed. Also, when agents sought to arrest one of the suspects, he opened fire and gravely wounded three agents before surrendering.
If the writing of a poem is blocked, major reads aloud, “I think to myself, is that the right note? Is that the right rhythm? When it hits my ear, I can hear if there’s a hole or it falls flat,” she says, Striving for every line to have balance adorable baby ballet shoes and meaning, major views the poem’s structure much like a painter considers a canvas, “White space on the page is a pause, a breath,” she says, A poem’s line or overall length is determined in less cerebral fashion, “The poem will tell me if it wants length, I don’t tell it, Sometimes, we have an argument, but the poem always wins.”..
Biss’ performances with the S.F. Symphony under guest conductor Peter Oundjian take place at 8 p.m. Thursday and April 29 and 30; he again will sign CDs post-performance in the lobby on all three occasions. The Brahms Symphony No. 3 and Christopher Rouse’s “The Infernal Machine” are also on the program. Tickets are $15-$140 at 415-864-6000 or www.sfsymphony.org, and I’m told they are dwindling fast. Fifteen more programs unfold through July, including separate concerts with the Pink Martini Orchestra and trumpeter Chris Botti, an all-Gershwin program, an all-ABBA music program, a showing of “Casablanca” with the symphony playing the live score and the traditional Fourth of July concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre that will feature Giants broadcaster Jon Miller narrating “Casey at the Bat.” The summer season winds up at 8 p.m. July 29 in Davies Hall, with an “At the Movies” concert featuring a potpourri of film scores.

“I’m feeling very inspired,” she says during another meeting, by the beach in Santa Monica. In that conversation she says, “I’ve always loved acting, and I feel really good about it right now. It’s an interesting job to have, because, when you start at 18, you don’t have that much life experience. You might think you’re ready for something, but you’re actually not. You’re dealing with 40-year-olds and being in an adult world when you’ve come straight out of dealing with prom issues.”.
