Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Cal Performances for a weeklong residency that ends Sunday. Of the four programs the incandescent company presents at Zellerbach Hall, only one features works not seen before in the Bay Area, with Kyle Abraham’s “Another Night” set to music by Dizzy Gillespie (performed by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers), and Ailey artistic director Robert Battle’s “Strange Humors,” featured Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Diaz had something of a photojournalist side, too. Ward produced a Diaz photo of a youngish, smiling Chavez holding up a United Farm Workers union placard.
