Rich Matli makes the most of his role as loveable bully Big Jule; Stephanie Case is terrific as the unbendable Mission General Matilda Cartwright who cuts loose at the end; and Ron Dritz is sincere as Sarah Brown’s earnest Mission confidante and friend, Arvide Abernathy. There are a couple of standout numbers — including the opening one, “Fugue for Tinhorns” (better known as “A horse right here”) sung by Nicely and two other gamblers, and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” which is both lively and exuberant as sung by Nicely and the male company members.
