Q: TV history has shown that when you put your two love interests together, things tend to stagnate. But right from the start of Season 2, you had Jimmy and Gretchen living together. Did that decision worry you at all from a writing standpoint?. A: Yes, it did. It’s a lot easier in many ways to have a couple dance around each other and do the whole will-they-or-won’t-they thing. Shows do that because it’s easier to write. But I wanted to challenge ourselves: Can Jimmy and Gretchen get over their own s—? Clearly, there’s still a lot of conflict to be had and it’s going to be a constant challenge to keep our couple interesting and not boring and stodgy. I like that challenge.
